This week, our assignment was to create a podcast. At first I was a little intimidated, but I think I got the hang of it. One of the hardest things was to come up with a topic. I chose to give an informational podcast about Banned and Challenged Books Week. This podcast explains what Banned and Challenged Books Week is and gives some examples of books that have been challenged and the reasons why. I also give out the website to the American Library Association, so that listeners can find out more information about Banned and Challenged Books, if they choose. Listen to my podcast here.
Oh I LOVE this idea! What a terrific way to use podcasts (it can be used in virtually any library setting - public, school, academic, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI honestly didn't know that the "Harriet the Spy" series has been challenged - RIDICULOUS! The one that always kills me is "And Tango Makes Three" -- it is a TRUE STORY about PENGUINS....how can that be banned/challenged?!?!?!
Misty,
ReplyDeleteI just listened to your podcast on banned and challenged books. What a great podcast. I was very surprised about some some of the children's books that were banned like Charlotte's Web and Black Beauty. What was more amazing is the rationale that is used for such banning.
As of recent, I have read that the book, Fifty Shades of Gray was on the banned books list. That book does, I believe, contain what is termed adult content.
I am not familiar with the process of how a book gets put on a banned book list but will reference the website you mentioned in your podcast. Thanks.
